"It's not in the top five reference points": Afterworld isn't just a Fallout grand strategy game, say Paradox, it owes a lot more to the Bronze Age

When Paradox announced their post-apocalyptic North American grand strategy game Afterworld, I made the obvious comparison to Fallout. For this I should be chained to the fender of a war rig and pelted with scoops of radioactive dogfood, while being slowly driven through a pack of three-headed coyotes. In a new dev diary, Afterworld's content designer and "elder lore keeper" Luke Bean has gone into some detail about the game's setting, explaining that Afterworld owes more to study of the Bronze

Paradox's grand strategy game Afterworld hasn't got a fixed history, it changes with every playthrough

Each time you start a new campaign in Afterworld, Paradox's upcoming post-apocalyptic grand strategy game, a tiny virtual historian cracks their knuckles and gets to work writing a new 200-year history for what happened to North America in the dying days of the great war. They will decide where the great powers fired their nuclear-tipped missiles, where they released their clouds of flesh-eating nanites, where they dropped their lung-bubbling chemical weapons, and they will decide who survived a

Paradox's Afterworld feels like the first grand strategy game I can properly wrap my head around

I've got a bit of a funny relationship with Paradox's grand strategy games. I love the idea of them, of waging and flirting my way across history on the most granular of levels. But despite my enthusiasm, and despite my best efforts, I've never properly cracked one: it doesn't take long before I'm feeling thoroughly overwhelmed and my attention quickly begins to wane. I bring this up, because my relatively brief hands-on time with Paradox's new post-apocalyptic grand strategy game Afterworld sug

Afterworld: The First Hands-On Preview: A (Probably Too Early) Taste of Paradox’s Next Big Thing

Typical for a Paradox game, Afterworld contains systems upon systems upon systems. It would be impossible to cover them all in the scope of this preview, from sending ranger teams into devastated cities to recover old-world tech, to equipping armies with bikes and dune buggies to bring road war to the wasteland while having to maintain supply lines for fuel and ammo. It's a lot to come to grips with and, like I said, in need of a lot of polish and balancing.
