Explore the town of Detour in this new Fallout 4 mod chock full of voiced NPCs and quests

A group of veteran Fallout 4 modders have just added a whole new town to its wasteland, offering another place to pop into for some trading and questing as you roam post-apocalyptic Boston. The place, dubbed Detour, looks set to act as a "new quest hub" that'll grow via new additions from its creators over time.

"It wasn't a planned thing": Breaking Benjamin singer on his mid-gig Fallout 4 mod promo being down to a broken drum and his love of VR

Remember when, a couple of weeks ago, the singer of American band Breaking Benjamin was filmed promoting a Fallout 4 first person he'd made via a mid-gig speech about modding community drama? Well, according to Benjamin Burnley, that wasn't some planned tirade, but rather an instance of ad-libbing to fill the dead air caused by a snare drum giving up the ghost. As for why it exists, the answer's largely just that the bloke loves him some VR wandering around Tamriel and The Commonwealth. Read mor

I'm not saying Fallout 4 modding drama gets to people, but here's Breaking Benjamin's singer begging concertgoers to try his AI-assisted first person mod

In my experience, the few minutes a live band take between songs to recover a bit before plunging into the next riff are generally quite uneventful. At the most, you might get an amusing story about what they've been up to in your city prior to getting on stage, chatter about the song they're about to play, or some light comedy night-esque crowd work. Or, if you attended a recent gig American rockers Breaking Benjamin played in Holmdel, New Jersey, a four minute promo segment for a Fallout 4 mod

Be warned: Fallout 4's next update may break your mods - and there's a similar one for Skyrim in the works, too

For most games, the news of a new patch is usually received with excitement. This is true for games made by Bethesda too, of course, but not when they're as old as Fallout 4 and Skyrim are. The reason? Mods.

As unionised Microsoft workers rally against Bethesda layoffs, Fallout 4's been filled with protest signs and OneBGS logoed vault suits by modders

Today, July 15th, unionised Microsoft workers are set to hold a series of co-ordinated rallies outside the offices of Xbox-owned studios, in protest of the mass layoffs the company set in motion last week. According to the Communications Workers of America union (CWA), over 400 union-represented jobs across Bethesda Game Studios, ZeniMax, and id Software are being cut. In solidarity with the union marches, modders continue to fill Bethesda games with union logos. Skyrim was the first and Fallout

New Fallout 4 quest mod starring an iconic Elder Scrolls voice actor has you solve an eccentric gang war over a long-dead starlet's vault of mysterious goodies

Since 2023, a group of well-known Fallout 4 modders have been getting together on an annual basis to team up with Elder Scolls and Fallout voice actor Wes Johnson on a chunky quest mod put together in a matter of days with the goal of rasing money for charity. Last year, their 40 hour-long charity modathon resulted in an alien-centric adventure dubbed Transmission Zeta. This year, they've plopped your character right in the middle of a war between two performers' gangs over who gets to unearth a

Bethesda Sets Release Date For Massive Fallout 4 'Creations' Update On Xbox Consoles

Series X and S are getting up to 100GB storage! If you're a fan of playing Fallout 4 on Xbox consoles, you're probably aware that the storage limit for Creations — modded content that you can add to your game — has always been extremely low on Xbox One, Series X and Series S. That's all about to change with a massive update on May 27th though, as Bethesda has confirmed that Creations storage will jump from 2GB to a whopping 100GB (!) on Xbox Series X and S on that date, allowing for not only mor

Fallout 1 and The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind now run on Fallout 4's Pip-Boy and computer terminals, thanks to a modder

Fallout 4 is a game that contains games. Little holotape games you can collect and give a go if you get bored of running around post-apocalyptic Boston. Well, a modder's now used that framework to get both the original Fallout and Morrowind running on the RPG's Pip-Boy and terminals, just in case you want the extra layer of firing up Fallout 4 next time you want to head for Vault 13 or Vvardenfell.

Switch 2 Fallout 4's DLSS Upgrade: Welcome But Not Game-Changing

Incremental upgrades to performance and image quality. Arriving in the evening before we were due to tape DF Direct Weekly #257, Bethesda and Sumo Digital have proven true to their word, adding DLSS upscaling to the already impressive Fallout 4 port for Nintendo Switch 2. In replacing the existing TAA with its associated blur, DLSS should be the dream ticket in making a good conversion even better, but the improvement turns out to be a little more modest than we hoped. There is a boost to image

Review: Fallout 4 on Switch 2 is Dramatically Improved Over Its Nintendo Direct Debut

But how does it compare to PS4, PS5 and Xbox Series S? Arriving in the wake of the contentious Skyrim port, Fallout 4 Anniversary Edition turns out to be a welcome surprise. After a Nintendo Direct trailer that looked very rough around the edge, what we actually get in the end is a faithful translation of the PS4/Xbox One era game, with all six DLCs. The surprise? Switch 2 doesn't just settle for 30fps - it aims to deliver acceptable experiences at 30fps, 40fps (for 120Hz displays) and even 60f

I'm not saying Bethesda are trolling me specifically, but Fallout 4 and Skyrim updates are imminent just as I've modded up the latter for the first time in ages

Right, just a couple more location overhauls and there we go. A fresh Skyrim load order created for my first modded toe-dip into Tamriel for quite a while, outside of grabbing the odd article image. Phew, now to relax and sink another 50 hou-wait. Fallout 4 and Skyrim updates are inbound, say Bethesda? Well, that would be my luck, wouldn't it?

Bethesda's Fallout 3 and New Vegas remasters won't stop the modders who've already spent years recreating the RPGs in Fallout 4

With Bethesda having begun to dip their fingers into the remaster bucket in recent years, some modders who'd decided long before that to get the ball rolling on such things themselves have had to reckon with the idea that official siblings of their passion projects could be in the works. It happened last year with Skyblivion and Oblivion Remastered, now it's happened for the crew behind The Capital Wasteland Project, an effort to recreate Fallout 3 in Fallout 4, and Fallout 4: New Vegas. Skyrim now runs on Fallout 4's Pip-Boy and computer terminals, as modder delivers the one port Bethesda haven't thought of yet

It had to happen. After getting the original Fallout and Morrowind running as a holotape on Fallout 4's Pip-Boy and terminals, the same modder has now made Skyrim playable within the game about a frozen snack finding their son and being nagged about settlements. I can only assume Fallout 4 becoming playable in Fallout 4 is mere days away.
