Saber Interactive made headlines recently when its boss had an ugly spat with a former employee about the company's use of gen-AI in taxi game Rideshare Stimulator. Matthew Karch, Saber's co-founder and CEO, since apologised, and made sure Rideshare got proper AI disclosure labels on Steam. But a larger question mark over Saber's approach to gen-AI remained.

Saber admit Rideshare "Stimulator" features generative AI writing, but deny they replaced taxi game's lead writer with ChatGPT

When Saber revealed Rideshare "Stimulator", Oisin was guardedly interested in the unofficial Uber simulator. You play a taxi operator picking up and dropping passengers around town while listening to their stimulating conversation. You thought the name referred to a different kind of stimulation? Get your head out of the gutter. Though, maybe not too far out of the gutter. After all, since its reveal, Rideshare's gained more attention for its odd swipes at Gearbox Software CEO Randy Pitchford an

The writer, Stella Sacco, says differently, however, posting on Bluesky that "I was lead writer on this one! And Saber replaced me with ChatGPT midway through development. Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 developer Saber Interactive clearly like to keep themselves busy, as today they've announced the next game that they're publishing.
