Feature: The Obliteration Of Andross - A Tactical Analysis For Maximum Damage In 'Star Fox'

Charting Star Fox’s most Venom-ous route. I’ve always been a champion of Fox and the gang, from resolutely defending the merits of Command on the DS to battling through Star Fox Zero’s janky multiplayer in anticipation for the team’s glorious return on the Switch 2, but nothing could’ve prepared me for quite how obsessed I’ve been with Velan Studio’s sublime Star Fox 64 remake since its launch six odd weeks ago. I've finally checked off every medal and challenge in the game and as I repeatedly t

"Randy Is A Madman!" - SNES Star Fox Gets A Speed Boost Thanks To Super FX 3

"The game is now able to hit the maximum 20fps far more often than before". The original SNES Star Fox has been upgraded to make use of Randy Linden's new Super FX 3 chipset, which was designed to power Limited Run's recent update of the SNES DOOM port. Released in 1993, Star Fox was the first SNES game to use the Argonaut-designed Super FX chip, which allowed the console to pull off the kind of 3D wizardry that was unheard of on consoles at the time. Opinion: What's The Best Star Fox Stage, And Why Is It Sector X?

Sector Why? I'm all for celebrating the little anniversaries. For example, did you know that Star Fox launched on Switch 2 one week ago today? Far from the biggest achievement, I'll admit, but it does mean that one thought has been rattling around in my head for a whopping seven days now (even longer, if you include the review period), and I just can't shake it: Man, Sector X rules. This smashed-up shuttle and I go way back to my very first playthrough of Star Fox 64 in the early 2000s. It haunt

Japanese Charts: Star Fox Proves There's Nothing Wrong With Its G-Diffuser In Week One

Systems? Check. We are back with our latest look at the Japanese charts, courtesy of Famitsu, and after grabbing the gold in the UK earlier this week, Star Fox has pulled the top prize in Japan, too. Fox's latest adventure barrel-rolled to the top spot in its debut week, nabbing over 41,000 sales. That means Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream has taken an unusual break from pole position and now finds itself in second place.

Beating the An-dross. The latest UK boxed charts data is in, and it's a resounding victory for Star Fox on Switch 2, which shoots to the top in its debut week. A lot of retailers had some compelling launch prices for the game that no doubt helped to fuel the physical sales, with many undercutting Nintendo's digital price significantly. Rayman: 30th Anniversary Edition also made its physical debut on the Switch at number 12 this week, with PS5 just about taking the lion's share with 56% of the pl

Review: Star Fox On Switch 2 Is a Refined Return to an Iconic Game - and the Rail Shooter Genre

A great addition to the pack. The new Star Fox remake for Switch 2 is a fascinating game in its own right - and a key revival for the returning rail shooter genre. While the days of such a game being a system-seller are long gone, the thrill remains - and this new incarnation is just as engaging as the original, while adding on some thoughtful new features. From a Digital Foundry perspective, Star Fox also stands as one of the best-looking games to ship on Switch 2; it's a smooth, polished and

Star Fox Is A New Beginning That Undermines Itself

There's a reason Nintendo keeps remaking Star Fox 64. The N64 iteration of the rail shooter--at the time, the second Star Fox release--remains the apex of the franchise: a genuinely fantastic game that still holds up and stands the test of time. Subsequent sequels that have attempted to recapture the magic have floundered by comparison. This latest iteration, simply titled "Star Fox" for what I can only assume is meant to be a soft reboot, plays just as great as you remember and looks even bette

Pigma balls. I was a little conflicted at the announcement of Star Fox's long-awaited return. One of Nintendo's finest titles with fresh visuals and updated controls? Yes please. But the same game I've already played tens of times over across various consoles and remakes? Ehh. A replay of the OG Star Fox 64 (or Lylat Wars, if you'd prefer) soon brought me around to the idea, convincing me that a healthy modernisation could, in fact, work wonders for McCloud's very best. Star Fox review

I recently finished reading Keza MacDonald's excellent Super Nintendo, a largely celebratory book about the company that "helped the world have fun", which nevertheless sounds a note of understandable caution at its conclusion. The author is concerned – and it's a concern I share – that Nintendo has been playing things too safe of late, that its release slate (with the odd exception) has become alarmingly conservative. It's time, surely, for the next Splatoon, and by that I don't mean Raiders. A
