The Mound Omen of Cthulhu has one genuinely excellent idea in its sanity system, delivering moments of paranoia and psychological horror that perfectly capture Lovecraft’s themes. Unfortunately, inconsistent performance on PS5, repetitive gameplay, clunky combat, and a general lack of polish prevent the rest of the experience from reaching the same standard.

Having spent more than 25 hours with The Mound myself, I can see why its review scores vary from decent to pretty poor. It's worth noting the more favourable reviews tend to be for the PC version.
