Double Fine Productions confirms that it owns—or will shortly own—the intellectual property and publishing rights to every game it made during its seven years under Microsoft, following the studio’s split from Xbox earlier this year EurogamerIGN. CEO Tim Schafer separately confirms that Double Fine now controls the publishing rights to its full catalogue Rock Paper Shotgun.

The Psychonauts developer is also giving its community a direct role in deciding what comes next, announcing that fans will be able to vote for the studio’s next game. Double Fine is holding its first game jam since 2019 as it develops ideas for its post-Xbox future VGC.

Double Fine’s return to independence follows Compulsion Games confirming earlier this week that it also owns the publishing rights to its games Rock Paper Shotgun. Both studios were previously part of Microsoft’s Xbox portfolio.
