Final Fantasy VII Revelation, Xbox Cloud Caps, Dawnwalker Sales
Square Enix finally dates Final Fantasy VII Revelation, while Sony’s September State of Play doubleheader turns the coming release calendar into the week’s biggest story. Microsoft, meanwhile, puts a price on unlimited Xbox Cloud Gaming access just as The Blood of Dawnwalker turns strong reviews into a major sales milestone.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation Sets 2027 Release Date

Sony’s two September 3 State of Play broadcasts deliver more than 30 announcements, with Square Enix using the main presentation to confirm Final Fantasy VII Revelation launches on April 8, 2027. The third and final entry in the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy arrives on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC through Steam, the Epic Games Store, and the Microsoft Store.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation also receives two story expansions after launch. One focuses on Sephiroth and the other follows Vincent and the Turks, with both available separately or through a Story Expansion Pass between winter 2027 and spring 2028. Physical editions use a single disc on every platform and require an internet connection to download additional game data.
The wider State of Play lineup strengthens Sony’s 2027 schedule with Until Dawn 2 launching on PS5 on January 28 and METRO 2039 following on February 4 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The Metro sequel’s PS5 Pro version is shown running at 60 frames per second with ray tracing.
Xbox Game Pass Cloud Gaming Moves to Monthly Limits
Xbox Game Pass plans begin imposing monthly Xbox Cloud Gaming allowances in November, ending the current unlimited arrangement for eligible subscribers. Game Pass Ultimate receives 15 hours per month, Premium receives 10 hours, and Essential receives five, with additional time available for purchase after the allowance is used.
Microsoft says the change is intended to protect cloud performance and address rising operating costs, while estimating that 4% of Game Pass subscribers are affected. The Xbox app is also coming to select TCL smart TVs, extending access to Xbox games beyond consoles and PCs.
The new limits sharpen the contrast with Sony’s subscription strategy, as PlayStation Plus Premium cloud streaming remains unlimited according to separate coverage. Sony also clarifies that PlayStation disc production will fall by 10% in 2028, rather than dropping to just 10% of its current level.
Nintendo Switch 2 Adds Multiplayer Ahead of Zelda Directs
Nintendo schedules a 30-minute The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct for September 8, followed by a regular Nintendo Direct on September 9. The first broadcast focuses specifically on Zelda, while Nintendo has not yet revealed what the following presentation will show.
Nintendo also expands Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on Switch 2 through the free version 4.0.0 update. The patch adds eight-player split-screen, camera support, faster loading, sharper visuals, and a new VS Marathon mode. The update turns the long-running Switch racer into a larger local multiplayer showcase for Nintendo’s current hardware.
The Blood of Dawnwalker Reaches One Million Sales After Launch
Rebel Wolves’ The Blood of Dawnwalker sells more than one million copies worldwide in its first three days. The dark fantasy action RPG, available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Switch, and PC, earns praise for its writing, focused structure, and setting despite reported performance problems.
The strong commercial opening follows an uneven launch on PC. Rebel Wolves publishes temporary solutions for release-day issues, while the first patch addresses blocked quest progression, controller behavior, and adds a new blacksmith recipe; stuttering, PlayStation button mapping, and shader-related crashes remain under investigation.
Capcom’s Onimusha: Way of the Sword also receives a positive early critical response as the samurai franchise returns to a new mainline entry after two decades. Critics praise the combat but identify dated missions and uneven pacing, while reported Metacritic scores reach 88 on Switch 2, 86 on PS5, and 82 on PC.
Monster Hunter Wilds and Crimson Desert Expand Their Worlds
Capcom shows new content for Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, including the floating Skybound Eyrie region, a post-game story, Master Rank quests, and additional monsters such as Lao-Shan Lung. A separate trailer focuses on the expansion’s Dual Blades and Light Bowgun action, while a Switch 2 version of Monster Hunter Wilds remains in development without a release date.
Pearl Abyss schedules Crimson Desert’s first post-launch expansion, Charting the Unknown, for October 15 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. The expansion adds a new setting and story along with castle construction, ship exploration, naval combat, and underwater gameplay.
No Rest for the Wicked Delay Adds to Development Uncertainty
Moon Studios delays No Rest for the Wicked’s full 1.0 release and PS5 launch from October to March 2027. The Ori developer says it will not compromise on the game’s quality and plans another beta and founders packs for early buyers during the extended development period.
The delay arrives amid broader evidence of development pressure across the industry. Don’t Nod announces a transformation initiative as reports point to another round of layoffs at the studio behind Life is Strange, Vampyr, Banishers, Jusant, and Aphelion.
Bit Reactor also temporarily suspends most of its staff without pay shortly before Star Wars Zero Company launches. The turn-based strategy game receives strong critical and player reactions and becomes one of Steam’s top sellers, leaving its developer in an especially uncertain position after a well-received release. +1
Sega closes Rovio Copenhagen after canceling the mobile game Sonic Blitz, which had already soft-launched in select countries. CD Projekt Red likewise confirms that The Witcher Remake is on hold while Fool’s Theory works on Songs of the Past, a new Witcher 3 expansion, with further progress also dependent on The Witcher 4.
GTA 6 Hype Drives Rockstar Roleplay and Console Sales
Rockstar Games launches Nopixel V, an officially backed GTA Online roleplaying server developed with Nopixel’s modders and available through the Rockstar Games Launcher on PC. A watch-only Nopixel 5 closed beta is also planned as part of the rollout.
The project gives Grand Theft Auto VI’s anticipation a new outlet as Rockstar builds around the existing online game. GTA 6: An Extended Look records 31.1 million Netflix views and tops the service’s global weekly chart, in addition to gaining further views on YouTube. That anticipation reportedly contributes to a 30% increase in PlayStation 5 and Xbox console sales in the UK before the game launches.
12TB Steam Leak Unearths Valve’s Canceled PC Game History

A reported 12TB archive of game builds uploaded to Steam between 2003 and 2013 puts more than a decade of pre-release PC game material into public circulation. Early discoveries include cut Portal 2 content, assets from the canceled Half-Life 2: Episode 3, and F-Stop, an unreleased Portal-universe project built around a camera mechanic.
The scale of the archive means its full contents are still unclear as investigators continue examining it.
